Enter the Tekken!
![]()
As far back as I can remember, I’ve loved beat-em-ups. I’m talking the one on one, mano-a-mano style, Street Fighter 2 et al. I was, and am still, a huge fan of all of these games. This is why there’s a page devoted to Tekken! My Tekken history goes back all the way to the original, and I’ve played every version including: Tekken, Tekken 2, Tekken 3 (a lot), Tekken Tag (probably even more, 4 player is a blast), Tekken 4 and of course the latest - Tekken 5!
My noticeable achievements include becoming almost unbeatable with Paul Phoenix, and entering the Tekken 4 nationals - as well as playing Tekken (4) in no less than 3 countries. If you like Tekken like I do, the official site is here: http://www.tekken-official.jp/ - check out the desktop backgrounds - they are ace. You can buy any of the Tekkens (or a PS2 to play em on) at Amazon - or try my shopping page.
The Warrior Within! (05/06/06)
This was an interesting session, that began rather slowly. Mr B was feeling very confident and was sure that Wils would bow down to his might. He did. Mr B took Wils to the wire, torturing him with a very strong showing of 20 to 4. Wils was beaten, badly - wearing his shame on his sleeve. However, something snapped. Fost arrived.
Not unusual this, though Mr Butterscotch was not expecting him after the most bizzare conversation over the phone with gaps of seconds between speech. Regardless, Fost turned up… and it was like a beast was quietly but surely let loose. Fost was up to usual form, extremely good, but not unbeatable.
However, Wils was suddenly a creature let loose from the cage… though that’s not a good analogy. He was closer to a skilled fighter, cunning and cool. Suddenly, Wils had a return. His score went up, and as usual there was a bit of round robin, whereby Fost got beat by Wils and Mr Butterscotch beat Wils to be defeated by Fost!
So, without further ado, lets take a look at the top matches:
- Devil-Wils destroyed Mr B with a great battle of Nina vs Yoshimitsu. This actually resulted in a final round perfect, whereby Mr B then left, driving far too fast. He still dropped Wils at the garage which is all of 35 metres away.
- Jack vs Jack, where l33t skills appeared to be shown - a lot.
- Bryan vs Nina - fast paced and quite deadly game of skill.
- Roger vs the rarely appearing Lei.
- Asuka vs Jin - Fost was on fire… Mr B went away limping…
The Forgotten Games (20something/05/06)
Unfortunately, for this week I’ve not only last the stats but completely forgotten what the hell happened during play, beyond the fact that Fost ruled the day (hell he ruled the week with that play) and both Wils and I suffered rather horrific Tekken-crappiness. I can only apologise for this rubbish update and promise next time it’ll be better! Until next time my loves…
Enter the Newbies!! woot! (17/05/06)
This week saw two new players enter the tournament, one known as Marty, the other as Selfy. Both with a y at the end. Y? Don’t ask me (Enough of the trash talk - ed). Not only were they new to our personal tournament, but both were new to the delights of Tekken itself. Funny then how things panned out. First, lets see the highlight/standout matches:
- Jin vs Heihatchi (Jin victorious)
- Asuka vs Paul (Asuka victorious - Paul cried in the corner)
- Devil Jin vs Nina (Nina y’o!)
- Jack vs Asuka (Jack, you smash her up good!)
- Lee vs Devil Jin (Lee stomps the devil)
Player of ye olde most Tourettes: Fost - though to be fair Selfy almost got this.
Scariest accent during play: Selfy’s Walken impression. Soundbite maybe to follow!
Most reserved (for a change): Wils.
Best title won during play: Selfy - The Giant Killer - for destroying Mr B.
Wins Losses
Mr B: 24 14
Fost: 30 10
Wils: 9 16
Marty: 5 19
Selfy: 7 16
———————————
(dated 9/5/06 or thereabouts)
Anyway, without further ado, here’s the latest play info from the ‘clash of the titans’ match involving my friends and I:
Wins Losses
Fost: 17 13
Mr B: 18 12
Wils: 9 19
So there you have it - conclusive proof that I was on form that particular evening. Then again, here’s the reasons why we were all complaining:
- Fost was tired
- Wils was hungry
- Mr B was suffering from a bad neck
So there you have it. On another note, there was the odd bout of ‘Tekken Tourettes’ - a now not-but-should-be famous condition which renders the loser a sweary mary. Make of that what you will, be the air was filled with so much blue one could barely see the room through the violet tinges - and NO I’m not talking the character.
Finally, the match of the night was Asuka vs Paul, but other highlights included:
- Heihatchi vs Jin
- Paul vs Asuka (again)
- Jack vs Jack
- Nina vs Violet

So close yet so far…
Maybe if I hadn’t suffered so many defeats at the hand of wils and his mad Jack-5 skillz…
Soon I will unlock the powers of Beak and with Asuka at my side claim tekken lordship over you all! (mwuhaha!)
Or get beaten by Wils again…

Ok, so you did do a star turn with Baek - very impressive, a good number. It still wouldn’t stand up to Nina’s kickass flips and kicks, shame about Steve Fox though… You got him good

This does not refelct me well, though I am getting better, and I will learn a few awesome charcters (played again this weekend and can still hammer Fost, except with Asuka). Another round this Wednesday methinks, oh and btw what a short post based on pages and reams of notes, I expect a blow-by-blow next time lol

You can have a more blow by blow next time man, I just wanted the core facts. I’ll do some video recordings of the best battle, hell I’ll bring the camera maybe to catch the looks of terror/happiness/crushing defeat!

It was indeed an epic battle, and I got cocky with my run of wins. Got bless Baek. I plan on buying a copy of Takken 5 and mastering some skills for future battles.
And I apologise for the filthy language. It was Walken. I swear it.

I also plan on learning to type properly, having noticed some appalling spellings in that last post.

My props still go out to Marty (although self truly is the giant killer) for stopping my attempted winning streak with asuka (who I did have the longest winning streak of the evening with) at the first battle, as mokujin no less, the toughest of characters to use. Special props to self though for the mighty Beak skillz (and yes I mean with a capital Z). I look forward to many great matches in the future. Mr B., a worthy opponent as per usual, and Wils I will learn how to defeat you!! You’ve lowered my average for the last time!!!

I’ll answer in the order you guys arrived here I think… So Selfy, welcome to the blog - I trust you found it easily enough. You like the little rundown? You should definitely invest in Tekken… I feel you could be MORE than a worthy match. Go through my shopping link and get it from Amazon, you could be my first customer
You have a fearsome Walken impression by the way, it sounded like that guy was in the back of the room, somewhere inside of you!

Yo Fost, it was scary how Marty beat you - not that I can say anything, he did in fact beat me prior to that. As for skillz, yep, Selfy did pull it out of the bag. You’ve gotta give it to the newbies, they gave some good matches, in a few cases better than they got! We definitely were playing the tactics game, they could learn a lot from watching that. As for Wils, his skillz are sometimes l33t, other times just plain poor. Like the ARCHERS - they’re a mixed bag…

As of today, I officially own Tekken 5. Not in the l33t way (but my time will come) but in the I-bought-it-from-HMV way. Hopefully next time it will be more than just beginner’s luck. Until we meet again, I shall be practicing til my thumbs bleed.

Congratulations on the purchasing of the mighty Tekken 5 Selfy - not that anyone needs congratulating in this post consumerist world of electronic entertainment, 24 hour purchasing and superfast cars, along with psychic powers and cool red bikes… no wait, this is NOT Akira!
Tekken is easy to pick up, and hard to master. I’ll be scared when you know how to really use Baek, you were pretty decent with him. There’s two key things to Tekken in my book:
1) Timing. If you know the distances and how characters strike you can always nip in and out again.
2) Mixing it up. Using low, middle and high attacks, along with specials, normals and power attacks can really surprise your opponent.
Alternatively, knowing a character really well (such as Fost with Asuka) really pays off…

What’s that you say: a perfect? against Mr B? Yes my friends the mighty have fallen, lets hope the floodgates have opened, unleash the devil Wils!!! Seriously though there is another potential tournament later in the week that I am gonna prepare for mister, should eb exciting and intense… but then when is it not?
on June 6th, 2006 at 2:35 pm
I’d agree with that, it’s always fraught, except on those rare occasions when someone is really on fire - and before you mention, nope I’m not talking about a rather blue looking Zangief in a completely different game…
I’m very much looking forward to a rematch of Devil Jin vs Kazuya, that was a great match Fost and I played in, and our Jack matches are pretty good too.

“Be extremely subtle, even to the point of formlessness. Be extremely mysterious, even to the point of soundlessness. Thereby you can be the director of the opponent’s fate.”
Once I learn how to control Baek the above statement will be true not just a sad fact.
on June 17th, 2006 at 5:54 pm
Yo Martay, I hear you are pretty devastating with Baek. U finally buy Tekken then?
on March 3rd, 2007 at 1:46 pm
We’ll all have to have a Tekken tournament. It’s one of the few games that I consider myself pretty good at. I’m currently enjoying Dark Resurrection on PS3.
on March 7th, 2007 at 10:49 pm
Damn I am soooooooo jealous! Okay, you’re in for the next tournament…
on June 24th, 2007 at 11:07 am
We sure used to play a lot of Tekken…
